A certain amount of fear is okay and it's normal; fear helps keep us out of danger but when it begins to intervene with productivity it becomes unhealthy. Anxiety is your body's natural response to stress. It's an excessive and persistent worry and fear about what's to come. Public speaking or going to a job interview may cause most people to feel fearful and nervous.

Symptoms of Anxiety

Symptoms of anxiety are associated with intense fear, constant worrying and over thinking. You may experience a fast heart rate, heart palpitations, rapid breathing, dry mouth, sweating, confusion, depression, blurred speech and headaches. A persistence of these symptoms may cause anxiety disorder.

Causes of anxiety

Anxiety may be caused by early childhood trauma, stressful events or situations which threatened ability, as well as pressure to deliver.

How you can overcome anxiety

  • Build a new self image

Most anxiety is caused by trauma at an early age of our lives. Between the ages of 5years and 7years is when our character is built, the experiences we go through are most likely to shape our thoughts and self image. A lot of people go through sexual abuse, emotional abuse and physical abuse; and at such a tender age they are not aware that they are being abused and the effect that the abuse is having on them. Now what happens is that at that age they subconsciously record all the negative events and as they grow up they build a low self image of themselves. They grow up with a low self esteem, self confidence, self love, thinking that they're unworthy or not good enough. Now once in a while as adults we're forced to step out of our comfort zone and being in a demanding situation may cause a lot of anxiety especially if we think we're not good enough.

However, science and research has proved that we can reprogram our subconscious mind and build a new self image with a set of new beliefs. Anxiety can be overcome and you can start with building a new self image. Acknowledge that what happened is in the past and it doesn't determine who you are. Work on building your self confidence and self esteem. I will be writing on how to build self confidence so make sure to keep reading. You can also practice positive affirmations for as long as you need, they help reprogram the subconscious mind so you can start to believe in yourself. It is also beneficial to talk to someone or seek professional help, no man is an island we all need each other's love and support.

  • Question your fears and challenge them

Sometimes we need to question our fears and worries because most of the time the situation that's out there is not as bad as our minds portray. We all fail sometimes and it's okay it's a growing process. You must not let a certain failure dictate your life but instead learn from the mistake, get back up and do better next time. Fear only means you're on the verge of growth and the best way to conquer fear is to challenge it. Remember that time when you finally did something you were so afraid of doing and immediately your confidence shot to the roof?

  • Increase your resilience

You can increase resilience by practicing relaxing yoga, meditation or praying. These techniques will help you to calm your mind, have inner peace and enjoy life as it comes. Exercising also helps increase your overall well-being, you can choose an exercise that you enjoy.

Healthy supplements

Soothing teas

Having a cup of tea can be an easy and delicious way to relax and focus on the important things in life.

  • Chamomile tea

Chamomile tea helps induce relaxation. Studies show that chamomile tea can bind to GABA receptors in the brain, helping to induce relaxation. The tea is made by infusing chamomile flowers in hot water. It has been used to induce sleep for a very long time and is one of the most famous bedtime teas.

  • Green tea

Green tea has a lot of health benefits. Studies show it may help improve everything from weight loss to blood pressure. Green tea is packed with antioxidants and tea polyphenols that help to boost health. Green tea can also work as an antianxiety remedy by helping to calm nerves. That's because green tea contains an amino acid know as L-theanine.

Studies show that L-theanine has direct effects on the brain, which has been demonstrated through the use of electroencephalograph tests. L-theanine increases alpha wave activity in the brain, indicating an ability to increase relaxation without drowsiness.
